Message Definition: unable to type message-name into text field

I am trying to use a message intermediate catch event, but am finding it difficult to type the message-name into the text field under Message Definition in the right margin. Every second or so the typed text is captured and becomes a message definition (with a very short name). It is difficult to enter more than just one or two characters before this very unusual behavior clicks in and grabs the characters typed.

There also does not appear to be a way of deleting previously created message definitions.

Thanks for any help with this issue. I am using the desktop version of the tool on Ubuntu 14.04LTS.
